It stands 30 inches from the floor when in the play position and the playing surface is the standard 5 foot by 9 foot. Just Play Soccer!

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

At the A-license renewal down at the IMG Academy, one of the Dutch National team coaches talked about the importance of getting our kids to just play soccer. Too many coaches run players through boring soccer drills over and over without giving them the opportunity to explore the game and learn on their own.

This is one reason that a small country like the Netherlands can field such an amazing team. They play a lot of soccer in their training sessions. They don’t drill all the time. The players actually get “homework” to work on their technical skills so that when they come to practice they can spend more time in game environments.

We have a different soccer culture in the United States, but there are some elements that we can put into place for our teams. Less drills, and more soccer. Small sided game, full sided games, anything that looks like and closely resembles the action game is key!

Watching Michael Jordan As a Wizard

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Even when Michael Jordan came out of retirement and played for the Washington Wizards, he was still wearing his world famous Nike Air Jordan sneakers on and off the basketball court. I remember watching a game on tv where Michael Jordan and Jerry Stackhouse, another former collegiate basketball player from the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, poured in a combined sixty one points. Even though they were playing on their home court floor the team couldn’t muster up the energy to beat the Indiana Pacers. But thankfully a lesser known player from the bench came in and helped the guys out and that was Hughes. He was able to put down over twenty three points in something like fifteen minutes and helped the team pull off a close win to avoid overtime, or even worse, a loss. You could tell after that night that the team wanted to come together and they made a good run after that.

Football in Australia

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

Football in Australia is the oldest among any form of football in the world. Its field is the biggest, its teams are the largest and its traditions may be the most colorful.

Known as Footy, Australian Rules football started in 1850s, when English and Irish colonists working in the gold mines of the Australian colony of Victoria played the game on improvised fields to blow off steam. For decades it was first and foremost a working-class sport, and for many years the sport’s motto was”the game of the people.”

Australian Rules football most closely resembles rugby. However, opponents can’t run with the ball for more than 15 meters without bouncing it off the ground; and, instead of throwing the ball, they must punch or handball it. The only thing Australian football has in common with the American football incarnation is that players wearing football boots score points by kicking a leather ball through goal posts. The Australian football field is huge and oval-shaped, players roam wherever they want and wear no protective padding, tackling is tightly regulated, and fans snack on meat pies with tomato sauce instead of hot dogs with mustard.

The Biggest Thing About Youth Quarterback Drills

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

Quarterback drills are easy to find, especially in this digital age and if you own a personal computer.

The drills needed to improve your quarterback’s abilities and skill level are much different than the other players.

Although, you may not want to use the quarterback drills directly as they are shown to you, without having modifying them at least a little.

Just like just about all football drills for kids, the players will need numerous repetitions in order to learn the correct basics.

The particular quarterback must understand numerous expertise as compared to the rest of the group.

In particular, the Globetrotter is a superb drill regarding improving football ball handling and ball security.

Make sure all of the passers get a full warm-up just before practice or games begin.

Run particular football drills for kids with regard to certain jobs, or positions they are playing during your stations session at practice.

Making your staff smarter and better is essential and using the appropriate football drills will help tremendously.

Goalkeeping at Its Best

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Goalkeeping in soccer is one of the most difficult tasks. There are so many things that somebody ahs to possess before he can be considered a goalkeeper. Goalkeeping requires good decision making and ability to respond in no time. In soccer, defense is very important and a player would just get the ball from the opposite team as much as possible. The goal keeper is the last line of team defense. To play the position properly, the goalkeeper keeper must have not only Goalie Gloves but flawless agility, good reaction times, explosiveness and often time just plain luck. Sometimes, playing the position is really easy especially if the team mates are paying defense just right. However, if the team fails to defend the ball and lets the opposite team get in the goal, the goal keeper is the one in the line of fire. However, being a goalkeeper is a fulfilling team especially if you get to prevent the ball from coming many times.

Liverpool Text Message Services

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

You’re not going to get your scores that way; you’ve got to subscribe to a Liverpool text service. If you do, you’ll be treated to access that will get you the scores you so sorely need, while you’re out on the road. There are so many benefits to receiving information by text, rather than having to access something like this over the web (even the mobile friendly web). For one, it’s a whole lot cheaper. And two, it’s faster. Anywhere you go, you’ll run into at least a few snags about accessing certain sites from your phone. So you’ve got to figure, you can at very least get a text message practically anywhere in the world. And text is just highly conducive to scores, because of how straightforward the content is. Why do you need a picture? You just need to figure out the spread for the game, and to know what your positions are like.
